Frequently asked questions

How many hypnotherapy sessions will I need?

I offer 3-session and 6-session packages: different approaches depending on various factors which we will discuss in the initial consultation.

For smoking/Vaping cessation it is a 2-session programme. An initial consultation is not required - we will have a chat by phone first.

Do I need to do anything between sessions?

This depends on what we are working on and what process we are using. In some cases, all you will need to do between sessions is to notice what has changed. I may advise listening to a bedtime hypnosis recording nightly while we are working together, and there may be a more active role for you to play (for example, at the end of each day writing 3 positive things about your day).

Can I have hypnotherapy in conjunction with other therapies and medication?

Yes, you can. Hypnotherapy can work well alongside other therapies and works well in conjunction with medication for anxiety and depression, for example SSRIs.

Can everyone be hypnotised?

Yes, everyone can be hypnotised. Trance is a naturally occurring state that we all experience many times throughout each day - it is the state we go into when we daydream. And hypnotherapy can also be done through conversation (The Control Method). As long as you are open to hypnotherapy, we should have no problem working together. During the initial consultation we will discuss which method will be best suited to you.

Is hypnotherapy guaranteed to work?

No therapist should ever make guarantees. I have fantastic results with my clients, which you can see in the wonderful reviews I have on Google.

Hypnotherapy is a collaborative process, so as long as you have a desire to change and are committed to the process, I am confident I will be able to help.

What does trance feel like?

Trance feels very much like daydreaming. There is a lot of work going on the background in the subconscious mind (the brain uses up much more energy when we are daydreaming than when we are focused on something), but you are still fully aware of yourself and your surroundings. As with daydreaming, you could pull yourself out of it if you wanted to and you are still fully in control of your mind and body at all times.

Can children have hypnotherapy?

Yes, they can. Children have an wonderful imagination so their subconscious can be very receptive to hypnotherapy. I work with children from age 13 and upwards. I hold an Enhanced DBS certificate.

Are online hypnotherapy sessions as effective?

Yes, online hypnotherapy is just as effective (see my BLOG about online hypnotherapy). You just need a reliable internet connection and a quiet, relaxing space. Some people feel even more comfortable and relaxed meeting from the comfort and familiarity of their own home.

I’m always happy to answer any questions, so please do get in touch if there is anything I haven’t covered.
